THE COMPANY
The dance company was founded by Francesca Selva in 1995, along with the Centro Danza in Siena. That year it debuted successfully at the Spalato (Split) "Summerfestival", and the following year it participated with a re-edition of the Symphony Fantastique and Symphony Pathetique, under the artistic direction of the Spalato National Theatre. The company, recognised by the Tuscan Regional Dance Centre, received funding from the Ministry for Arts and Cultural Heritage and from the Regional Government of Tuscany for young dance companies. The company became Artists in Residence at the Teatro dei Rinnovati and Teatro dei Rozzi in the City of Siena, which has recognised its professional and artistic merits. It has collaborated with numerous contemporary artists and composers of international renown: Boris Nikisch, Spalato National Company, Mauro Pagani, Stephane Fournial, Sofiane Sylve, Colette Armand, (Marsiglia Ballet School), Gruppo Musicale Universitario (Siena University), Paolo Nocera, Michela Caldesi (Montepulciano International Workshop). In 1996 the company created and produced the video "Image Affective", which was distributed by Italian State Television (RAI) for Vittoria Ottolenghi’s TV program "Maratona d'Estate". It has been the guest dance company since the first edition of the festival “La città aromatica” in Siena and at the first edition of the cultural program "Cyrano", which officially opened Siena’s cable network. The company took part in festivals and dance seasons promoted in collaboration with the Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo (Tuscan Foundation for the Performing Arts) and Arteven. It represented Italy in the 7th European Dance Festival at Limassol (Cyprus). In collaboration with the City of Siena and the Italian Cultural Institute in Budapest, the company was invited to take part in a cultural exchange, in which the poet Mauro Luzi also took part. Under the auspices of the Sofia Opera Theatre, the company was invited to Bulgaria to perform its 2004 production at the 8th edition of the Spring Festival. It is among the founding companies of the Contemporary Art-Dance Association (ADAC) in Tuscany. The Company is mentioned in the “Guida della Danza in Toscana” (“Guide to Dance in Tuscany”) (Florence Art Edizioni 1999). It has also been the guest of and has been signalled by cultural programs such as Maratona d’Estate (RAI UNO), "Valzer" (RAI3 Toscana), RAI Tg3 Regione Toscana, Lazio e Veneto, Radio Italia, Network Cinquestelle, Tele Nord Est, Canale Civico, La Serenissima, TV9, TG5.com. |
